I notice almost everyone comes to this page, and then leaves the site. This is the last damned page everyone looks at, and I think I know why. This page used to have just the very informative red and green table below, but let me put it in Plain English and tell you what I think you want to hear (even though it's what I've been saying all along). Ready? Keen.

Yes, you can put up Yiffy Art!

If you don't know what this means, don't worry about it. For the rest of you, it means if you're an Artist, or selling furry art, or something along those lines, then yes, it's okay to put that stuff up. As long as either A) You're the artist who made it, or B) You have permission to post it for public view (in other words, as long as you're respecting the rights of the artist), then by all means, ftp it in.

There's a little catch, though. Ready?

I ask (nicely) that you put a disclaimer or a warning in before any adult content. It's no longer a requirement. But it is common courtesy to your viewer, and in general, good form and good taste. However, if I, as the server admin, get complaints from people about your undisclaimered content (If they go to the trouble to look up who I am through network tracing or domain registration), I will pass them on to you, but I will take note. I don't need bad PR. Easy enough?

This is porn. (Warning:External Link to a random smut site) It's whole reason for existence is to make money by EATING BANDWIDTH. No artistic value, just lots of videos of people !@#ing. And you get to pay to watch them. Lucky you.
This stuff ISN'T. (FurBid Adult Category Link). It HAS artistic value, no matter how badly drawn it is (nothing against any specific Furbid artist there). More accurately, it's put up by you. Because you created it.

What exactly do we define as porn? And what can and can't you do as a designer? Here are a few examples of what you can and cannot do. Anything with green in the left column is okay, anything red isn't. Simple, right?

OK! Let's say you're an artist. You draw an anthropomorphic wolf...
Uh huh! A boy wolf...
Fine! A naked boy wolf...
Cool! A well-proportioned naked boy wolf, showing it all to the world...
Wow! And engaging in acts of questionable morality with another wolf (of either gender)...
Nifty! With "toys"...
Okay! While tied up...
Blub! Underwater...
'ere! While doing ganja (don't ask me about the physics of this one, it's an example)...
Arright! And practicing witchcraft...
Ouch! And getting his nipple pierced...
Yup! By a midget...
Eew. Who's also urinating on him... Hey, look at all that GREEN on the right. That means it's allowed! No matter how tasteless, it's your art and your site. However...what if...
NO! You use the server as your personal repository of all the porn you downloaded from SexyFur.com or Playboy.com last week, and tell people it's here for free! So come and get it now! FREE NUDE PICS! ALL AMATEUR TEENS! GET ON THE BANG BUS! (God I hate those ads). Am I making the distinction obvious enough? Don't abuse a shared resource by posting material you don't even have the rights to! Let's do another, shall we?
Lucky! You took a photo of your significant other, er, having fun with someone else. For the heck of it, let's say they both love your photography in this one shot and you get permission from them (in writing, of course, so you know your butt is covered if you ever have a fight with them or something.) to post that one picture publicly...
*click* And you link to it from your home page...
Oh wow And you show it to all your friends...
Hot Damn Who in turn show it to all their friends...
Hold It... When you decide to take more, and start charging for access, after all, all this bandwidth is free, right? Wow, why is that left cell thing suddenly red? Because you're making money off of a resource I'm giving you for a completely different purpose. Once it goes over to "paid porn site" I draw the line. I think it's reasonable that if you're [ab]using a lot of a resource I give out generously for all my users I should be allowed to ask for more, if you're making money off of my server at the measly six bucks a month I charge. *whew* Okay, I'm done. But what about...
OK! You do nudes in your college life-drawing class and want to upload your sketches. It's fine. I use this example specifically because life-drawing models have already signed a waiver that says they understand that what's drawn may be posted, and they relinquish all rights to the materials. Here's another example:
Sure. You're a goth girl going to a small Long Island University. You have some photos of your body and want to publish them...
Sure. But they're nude...
Sure And show your lower body...
Sure As well as your recent piercings all over...
Sure. And you get a very obvious sounding url (and the bragging rights that come with it!). Yes, this stuff is okay too. How about some more examples:
HELL NO! You're a complete F*&^Stick who decides to upload nude photos (doctored or not) of a15 year old girl...No, don't even go there. It's illegal, immoral, unethical, tasteless, Just Plain Wrong, and by the way can get you, me, and my upstream provider ALL in trouble. Find a server physically located in another country for that crap, and I don't want to know about it. I don't even want LINKS to that stuff posted. Kids getting hurt or exploited pisses me off. I've never HAD any content of this type, and I don't intend to EVER have any if I can help it. I'm sorry. Here's another example of something that annoys me...
Fine. You're a member of a medieval reenactment club, and like to post photos of you and your motley crew...
Party! And you throw wild parties where clothing sometimes gets shed, and you post a few photos that show a cheescake or two, and there are no complaints from anyone because everyone agrees it's in fun.
W.T.F.!?!? And hey, you coincidentally like to make films about women in high-heeled shoes stepping on small animals, to death. Hey, why not upload stills and videos to the server? Oh wait, not only is this content also illegal in the locality where the server resides, but it's illegal where YOU are and where the film was made. I should note that this example specifically was never uploaded to the server, but it happened locally to me. There are a LOT of furries and animal activists on this box, and I side with my users (and 99.9 of the general population) in thinking that crap is disgusting.

A general rule of thumb is if you hold the copyright on it (if you photographed/drew/rendered it) it's okay. Even the raciest of XXX art is okay, but you really should make mention of the fact beforehand that yes, if you click this you're going to see trains going into tunnels or whatever kindergarten euphemism you care to use.

Just please be "adult" about it.

Wow. I shouldn't make my HTML pages after listening to The Ranting Gryphon.
